Fun Facts about US Presidents

Here are some facts about U.S. Presidents:

  • Harry S Truman: The “S” in Harry S Truman does not stand for anything which was a common practice of the Scots-Irish.  The "S" was chosen by his parents to please both grandfathers, Anderson Shipp Truman and Solomon Young.
  • Grover Cleveland:  He is remembered as the only president to serve two nonconsecutive terms, but did you know he was once a sheriff and he personally carried out two executions instead of paying a deputy $10 to perform the execution?
  • William McKinley: Was the last president of six that have served in the American Civil War and the only one that was not a general. He started out as a private and ended as a major.
  • Franklin Pierce: He was once arrested during his presidency for running over a woman with his horse.  Due to lack of evidence, the charges were later dropped.
  • George H.W. Bush - After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Navy on his 18th birthday and became a Naval Aviator three days before his 19th birthday, which was the youngest at that time. He now has a aircraft carrier named after him.
